Rachel Skarsten, the tough girl:

Like the teen heroine Black Canary she's playing on "Birds of Prey," Rachel Skarsten is one tough bird.

"I'm actually a goaltender for an ice hockey team," says the teeny 17-year-old blonde.

She smiles to show her teeth.

"I have them all," she says laughing. "They are all real."

Skarsten got into the sport early in her life. "I'm from Canada," the Toronto native says. "We're born on skates."

Though acting is her other passion, Skarsten likes roughing it a bit. She does her own stunts on the action-adventure show when the powers-that-be allow.

At this WB party, she's wearing a nose ring. It was not Black Canary's style, but the writers are finding a way to let her keep it.

"In the show, I am from a small town," she says, "and apparently people in small towns don't have piercings ... but this is part of my nose now, so they are going to find a way for me to keep it."

She favors George Clooney's Batman portrayal to anyone else's in the movie series because "he has great lips," she says.

On the subject of men, Skarsten is hoping her Canary won't chirp alone for long. She says she wouldn't mind taking on a guy or two from "Smallville," the WB's Superboy saga.

"I need a boyfriend," she laughs, "so bring 'em on. But I think Lana Lang could beat me up."
